What to do...Keep your house listed or take it off for the holidays

Typically when the holiday season rolls around, activity starts to slow down and Sellers decide to take their homes off the market thinking this is the worst time to sell. That’s not always the case and there are some good reasons why you my want to keep your house listed during the holiday season.

• For starters, there are fewer homes for sale. Most sellers take their homes off the market during the holidays, assuming no one will be buying at this time. But with serious buyers still out there and a lower inventory of homes, your home has a good chance of standing out.
• Some buyers may be looking to relocate before the New Year.
• Investors may want to close before the end of the year for tax reasons.
• Buyers have more vacation time off to house-hunt.
• Services are more available. Business slows for lenders, home inspectors, appraisers and title companies during the holidays, so they all have more time to spend with clients.
• Personally I think that nothing says "Welcome Home" more than a winter background and nicely decorated home. The key is to not overdue. Keep the décor simple and subtle.
• Stay positive, it’s a busy time but you may be surprised with an extra gift under the tree…”an Offer.”

Happy Holidays!

Traveling back in time to Governor's Island

There's so much history to the Lakes Region and it's fascinating to travel back in time, from Colonial days to present, to see and read the richness and transformation of the communities which surround Lake Winnipesaukee.

This article will concentrate on Governor's Island in Gilford, NH. The island originally granted to Governor John Wentworth by the King of England in 1772, remained undeveloped until 1803. One of the earlier owners of the island, Stilson Hutchins, built an impressive granite mansion in 1885 overlooking the Weirs and hosted two Presidents there -- Grover Cleveland and Theodore Roosevelt.

The island changed ownership in 1928 but fell to bank foreclosure in 1935. Thereafter, significant development occurred after World War II. More detailed information can be found on this link Governor's Island History hosted by GIC.

Today, Governor's Island offers luxurious waterfront homes and amenities including community beach, tennis courts, club house and playground. There are currently (8) homes for sale on the island. To view these properties, click Governor's Island Properties for sale.
